The Center for the Importance of Play was founded in 2012 by the Elisa Ballard. She is passionate about creating an organization that is focused on the development of our children. She is also passionate about finding and preserving toys and dolls from around the world and from all eras.
Toys and dolls are a common link that we all share regardless of our race, religion and culture. Toys and dolls have been used since prehistoric times to teach children about culture, history and religion. Through play, kids learn to be creative and to expand their imaginations. It's been said that Play is the work of children, but studies show that play is important to our well-being throughout our lives.
The Center for the Importance of Play previously operated the San Diego Toy and Doll Museum located in the family focused community of Poway, California. Unfortunately, the museum had to close when the founders needed to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area. Their extensive collection of toys and dolls is now in search of a new home.

The Center is hoping to partner with the right person or Organization that can provide a suitable store-front or building that can house the collection and also provide space so that the Center can conduct its many programs to help families learn about the importance of play.

The Center operates as a public benefi, non-profit organization pursuant to 501(c)3. Tax ID. 45-4733924
